Liaoning's sole site in the database, Old Pian Island near Dalian, sits in the cold waters of the Bohai and Yellow Sea. It is a boat-only reef and drift dive reaching thirty metres, suited to intermediate divers who can handle significant current and cold temperatures. Water temperatures are cold for most of the year, dipping to around four degrees in late winter and only reaching a comfortable level in late summer and early autumn. Visibility can be limited, starting from around three metres, and a thick wetsuit or drysuit is necessary for much of the year.
