Guangdong's dive sites sit in the South China Sea, along a coastline of rocky reefs and offshore islands near towns such as Nan'ao and Shenzhen. The region mixes natural reef with at least one dedicated artificial reef, and depths across the database range from very shallow to around thirty metres. Water temperatures are warm from late spring through autumn and cooler but manageable in winter, allowing year-round diving. The species list is notably varied, taking in common seahorses, Napoleon wrasse, green sea turtles, zebra bullhead sharks, and gorgonians, alongside more unusual finds such as seamoth and longhorn cowfish.

Water temperatures follow a clear seasonal curve, coolest in January and February and warmest from July to September, when conditions suit a thin wetsuit. From late autumn through winter, a thicker suit is advisable. Visibility varies considerably by site and season, so conditions are worth checking with local operators before travelling.
