Yellowknife's dive sites cover lakes and rivers in the southern Northwest Territories, ranging from backcountry wilderness lakes accessed by portage to river sites with moderate currents. Hidden Lake offers visibility often exceeding ten metres in a remote setting, while Tartan Rapids and the Yellowknife River Bridge suit divers comfortable with current and low visibility. Prelude Lake provides accessible shore entry with rocky underwater structure. Water temperatures at most sites are very cold, though Prelude Lake can warm considerably at the surface during summer. Sites accommodate a range of skill levels, from beginners at calm beach entries to advanced divers at current-exposed river locations. Both summer and winter ice-diving are possible here.
