Flin Flon and The Pas sit at the edge of the boreal forest in northern Manitoba, where diving takes place in freshwater lakes with limestone bedrock geology. Sites include East Blue Lake, Rocky Lake, and the dramatically named Limestone Narrows, where sheer rock walls and canyons drop to significant depth. The Caves site features limestone crevices deep enough that snow can persist in them into early summer, and water temperatures hold around four degrees Celsius year-round. Visibility varies by site but reaches exceptional clarity at some locations, attributed to the limestone substrate. Walleye, pike, lake trout, sturgeon, and burbot are among the species divers encounter. Diving here is primarily a summer activity given the remote northern climate.
