Clerke Reef is part of the Rowley Shoals, a group of isolated atolls in the Indian Ocean accessible only by liveaboard from Broome. The reef features near-vertical walls dropping to forty metres, caverns that offer shelter from strong tidal currents, and a sheltered lagoon area at Blue Lagoon. Drift diving along the reef face is a defining feature of the experience, with tidal flows driving divers at speed past the walls. Visibility is highly variable, ranging from near-zero during tidal exchanges to fifty metres in calmer periods. Species recorded here include whale sharks, blacktip and whitetip reef sharks, Napoleon wrasse, green sea turtles, and clearfin lionfish.
