Banco Patria is a deep offshore diving area twelve kilometres from Mar del Plata on the Buenos Aires Province Atlantic coast. Both sites, Banco Patria itself and Pozo del Tio, are boat-access dives starting at around twenty-five metres and reaching forty-five metres, placing them firmly in intermediate to advanced territory. Strong currents make descent and ascent lines essential, and the overhead environments at Pozo del Tio, which includes caves and swim-throughs, demand precise buoyancy control. Visibility is typically between five and ten metres. Water is cold year-round and reaches its lowest point in mid-winter. The species list is notable for open-water and deep-reef animals: mako sharks, smooth hammerheads, blue sharks, eagle rays, and torpedo rays are all recorded here alongside dusky grouper, conger eel, and lined seahorse.
