Caraballeda sits on Venezuela's central Caribbean coast near La Guaira and offers a compact set of boat-accessed sites ranging from very shallow reef for snorkellers to thirty metres for intermediate divers. The mix of natural reef and artificial structures includes the Caribe Soy, a fishing vessel intentionally sunk in February of two thousand and seven to create an artificial reef, as well as El Velero, which combines natural and artificial reef. Water temperature is warm year-round, climbing highest in September and easing back in the early months of the year. Marine life recorded at these sites includes green and Ridley sea turtles, nurse sharks, Atlantic goliath grouper, lined seahorses, gorgonians, and flying gurnard.
