Lake Constance offers a freshwater diving experience built around artificial reefs, wrecks, and the occasional wall dive. Shore entry dominates across the region, making logistics straightforward, and the majority of sites are rated for beginners. The fish life is distinctly lacustrine: Common Perch, Pike, Pike Perch, Burbot, and Catfish are all regularly observed, alongside Freshwater Shrimp and American Crayfish. A handful of sites reach serious depths for more experienced divers, while shallower artificial reefs provide compact, approachable dives. Visibility is moderate, rewarding patient, close-range observation rather than wide-angle scenery.

The lake's fish community is well documented from diver observations. Common Perch and Pike are seen at the majority of sites, while Pike Perch, Burbot, Common Carp, and Catfish are also regularly encountered. Freshwater Shrimp and American Crayfish are frequently spotted around reef structures, and Wels Catfish, Trout, and Tench appear at a smaller number of sites.
The region is well suited to newcomers. The large majority of listed sites are rated beginner level and accessed directly from the shore, removing the need for boat logistics. Artificial reefs at shallow to moderate depths give less experienced divers a structured environment to build confidence. Several local operators, including Tauchschule Zingg-Dive and Tauchschule Eat Sleep and Dive, offer tuition based around the lake.
Artificial reefs form the backbone of the dive scene, appearing across sites from very shallow training grounds to deeper structured reefs. Several sites combine an artificial reef with a wreck, such as Kornhaus Rorschach and Strandbad Rorschach, giving two distinct features in a single dive. Rietli Goldach Einstieg offers wall diving with underwater sculptures, and the Jura wreck, a sunken wooden paddle steamer, is one of the few sites requiring boat access and is rated intermediate.
Shore entry is the norm across Lake Constance, and most sites are reachable without any boat arrangement. The Jura wreck is a notable exception, sitting well offshore and requiring boat access, which also places it in the intermediate category.
