Wondergat is a freshwater dolomite sinkhole on the South African highveld near Mafikeng, known for its overhead environment and the technical demands of its deeper sections. The two sites here are Wondergat itself, which descends to fifty-eight metres through a narrowing shaft, and Marico Oog, a spring with shallower, calmer water better suited to beginners. Visibility at Wondergat ranges from moderate near the surface to considerably clearer below twenty metres. Water temperatures are cold and require a full wetsuit or drysuit. Freshwater species present include catfish, carp, tilapia, trout, and freshwater shrimp. Wondergat is widely regarded as a site for advanced and technical divers due to its depth and cavern sections.
