Verde Island sits in the Verde Island Passage between Batangas and Puerto Galera and is reached exclusively by boat. All three sites in our database are advanced-only, defined by walls and drop-offs with consistently strong currents that make drift diving the norm. Depths run from a few metres at the top of the wall to seventy-five metres at the deepest pinnacle. The passage is noted for high fish biomass, and the species list here reflects that, including reef manta ray, eagle ray, grey reef shark, whitetip reef shark, whale shark, and a rich variety of nudibranchs such as Nembrotha and Chromodoris species. Water temperatures can be two to three degrees cooler than neighbouring sites due to underwater springs, particularly in the first quarter of the year.

Temperatures are cooler here than at many nearby Batangas sites, dropping to the mid-twenties in the first months of the year before warming through the mid-year period. The cool, nutrient-rich water brought by currents and springs contributes to the high marine life density the passage is known for.
