Guatemala's Pacific coast offers open-ocean reef diving at intermediate level, with all sites reached by boat from the Las Lisas area. Both sites sit at depth, and strong currents along with rip currents are a consistent feature that requires good buoyancy control. Visibility is limited, typically around five to ten metres, so diving here rewards those who focus on close reef structure and the resident marine life rather than wide-angle panoramas. The species list is one of the most varied in Guatemala's database, with whale sharks, silvertip sharks, whitetip reef sharks, marble rays, Pacific cownose rays, Ridley turtles, and giant frogfish all recorded. Water temperature remains warm throughout the year, dipping slightly in the early months before rising again through mid-year.
