Hesselø lies in the Kattegat, reached by boat from the nearest coastal towns. The sites here include reefs, wrecks, and an artificial reef, spanning from very shallow water down to around twenty-four metres. The island is noted for calm autumn diving on sunny days, and the Hesselø reef itself is known for encounters with curious harbour seals, with reports of large numbers circling divers in the shallows. Wrecks such as Anders Martin and Malene Slotø suit intermediate divers, while the shallow Hesselø reef and Grønlandshuse are accessible to beginners. Water is cold for much of the year, warming to its warmest in late summer.
