The Vienna Area and Neufelder See form the two main sub-areas, each with distinct character: the Vienna Area leans toward shallow, beginner-friendly sites with artificial structures, while Neufelder See adds walls, caves, wrecks, and greater depth for more experienced divers. Visibility varies considerably across sites and seasons. The resident wildlife is freshwater throughout, with Common Perch, Sun Perch, Pike, and Rudd reliably observed, alongside the occasional Signal Crayfish and Common Carp.

The wildlife here is entirely freshwater. Common Perch and Sun Perch are the most frequently observed species, and Pike and Rudd are also regularly spotted. Divers occasionally come across Signal Crayfish and Common Carp, and Freshwater Jellyfish have been recorded at a handful of sites.
The majority of sites across both the Vienna Area and Neufelder See are rated beginner level, with many featuring shallow, calm, current-free conditions and easy shore entry. A smaller number of sites at Neufelder See, including the Strandbad and the main Neufelder See circuit, are rated intermediate due to greater depth and more varied topography.
The Vienna Area has the larger share of sites and skews toward very shallow artificial reefs, making it particularly accessible for training and first dives. Neufelder See offers a richer variety of site types, including walls, caves, wrecks, and artificial structures, across a broader depth range, giving more experienced divers more to explore.
Every listed site in the region is shore-entry, so no boat charter is required. Lakes such as Ratzersdorfer See and the Neufelder See circuits can be entered directly from the bank or a designated beach area. The large number of local operators, including Die Tauchschule, Diving.at, and H2O Diving Academy, can assist with guided access and equipment.
