Neufelder See is a former lignite open-pit mine closed in the early twentieth century, now flooded to a maximum depth of around twenty-three metres and sitting roughly fifty kilometres south of Vienna. It is the most accessible dive site for divers based in or near the capital, which explains its popularity with training schools. Shore entry is straightforward, facilities are well developed, and six sites ring the lake covering walls, artificial reefs, a cave section, and wrecks. Visibility is variable and can drop sharply after busy weekends or in unsettled weather, so conditions reward an early or midweek visit. Fish life includes pike, perch, rudd, chub, and signal crayfish.
