Pelorus Island sits in the Palm Island group and its main site, Float Moorings, is a fringing reef that can be entered directly from shore, with the reef just metres from the entry point. The terrain runs from very shallow water down through a wall and drop-off. Conditions vary considerably, with visibility anywhere from clear to quite limited and currents that can fluctuate in strength. The site suits beginners, though divers should check conditions before entering. Water temperatures are warmest in summer and coolest through the middle of the year.
