Punta Loma lies on the Atlantic coast of Golfo Nuevo, around fifteen to seventeen kilometres from Puerto Madryn, and covers a range of site types that accommodates beginner through to advanced divers. The area includes sea lion colony dives at Loberia Punta Loma, a kelp forest at Loberia, the wreck of the Naufragio Folias, a fishing vessel sunk in nineteen eighty that now rests on its port side at shallow depth, and the deeper mixed reef at Punta Este, which descends to thirty-five metres and is reserved for advanced divers. Water is cold throughout the year, dropping to around ten degrees in winter and reaching the high teens in summer. Species encountered include South American sea lions, nudibranchs, groupers, and Patagonian redfish.

The warmer spring and summer months generally offer the most comfortable conditions, though the wreck and shallower sea lion sites are accessible year-round with appropriate exposure protection.
