Thun and Interlaken divide their diving between two distinct lakes. Lake Thun holds the majority of sites and offers the greater variety, from shallow artificial reefs and seagrass beds suited to beginners through to sheer walls and canyons that demand intermediate experience. Lake Brienz adds a smaller but worthwhile cluster of sites to the north-east. Across both lakes the underwater fauna is distinctly freshwater: Common Perch is seen at the great majority of sites, with Burbot, Pike, Carp, and American Crayfish also regularly observed. Shore entry dominates, keeping logistics simple for independent divers.

Common Perch is the most frequently observed species across the region, appearing at the large majority of sites. Burbot, Pike, Sun Perch, Carp, and American Crayfish are also regularly recorded. Less common but present encounters include Barbel, Trout, Chub, Bullhead, and Rainbow Trout.
A good number of sites are rated beginner level, including shore-entry options such as Längenschachen, Churchill, Ameisenecke, and Hotel Bellevue. These offer gentle profiles, shallow maximum depths, and straightforward entries. Intermediate sites such as Wasserfall, Balmholz, and Gunten Bad involve walls and deeper drop-offs that require greater depth management.
Lake Thun holds the larger share of sites and the widest variety of topography, from shallow artificial reefs and seagrass beds through to dramatic walls and canyons. Lake Brienz offers a smaller, more focused set of sites on the eastern side of the region. Divers with more than a day or two in the area can reasonably explore both.
Shore entry is the predominant access method across the region, covering the majority of sites in Lake Thun including popular spots such as Wasserfall, Fischbalme, Gunten Bad, and Ameisenecke. Boat access is required for sites such as Balmholz and Lac des Bousses. Several local operators including Dive Center Thunersee, Nemo Tauchsport KLG, and Xtrem Diving serve the region and can assist with both shore and boat logistics.
