Yangyang lies on the northeast coast of South Korea, with its sites spread across the East Sea between Nammae and the Gangneung area. The five sites in our database range from very shallow beginner-friendly shore entries to a deeper boat-access reef at forty metres, where large rock formations rise from the seabed. Artificial reefs, including octagonal structures at Pal-gak, have built up communities of temperate reef fish and invertebrates. Recorded species include nudibranch, gorgonian, red coral, black coral, and giant green anemone. Water temperatures are cool for much of the year, with the warmest window running through late summer and early autumn.

Yangyang's East Sea water is among the cooler in our Korea data, dropping to around ten degrees in mid-winter and warming to the low-to-mid twenties in late summer. The warmest diving runs from July through October; outside that window, temperatures fall off quickly and a thick wetsuit or drysuit is appropriate. The deeper Geumgangsan site remains cold year-round.
