The SAS Pietermaritzburg is an Algerine class ocean minesweeper resting in the Roman Rock Area of False Bay. Originally commissioned as HMS Pelorus, the vessel participated in the D-day invasion of Normandy before being sold to the South African Navy in 1947. Today, the wreck serves as an artificial reef located 700 metres from shore. Divers typically explore the site at depths between 17 and 22 metres, with an average depth of 20 metres.
