Addu Atoll sits at the southern end of the Maldives and builds its identity around channelled currents, steep walls, and large pelagic life. Reef Manta Ray, Tiger Shark, Whale Shark, and Grey Reef Shark are consistently observed across sites. The Gan sub-area holds the greater share of sites, while Meedhoo offers a more compact cluster along its outer walls. The wreck of the British Loyalty adds a distinctive advanced dive to the mix. Most sites are boat-accessed and suit intermediate divers.

Water temperature stays warm and remarkably stable throughout the year, with the warmest period running from late spring into early summer. The best diving conditions, judged by operator and diver consensus, favour the months from January through April, when visibility along the outer walls and kandu channels tends to be at its clearest. From May onward conditions shift, with currents and surface chop making some exposed sites more demanding.

Addu Atoll has observation-backed records of Reef Manta Ray, Tiger Shark, Whale Shark, and Grey Reef Shark across a wide range of sites. Rainbow Runners, Fusilier, Humpback Snapper, and Batfish are very commonly encountered on the reefs. Eagle Ray, Barracuda, Whitetip Reef Shark, and Hawksbill Sea Turtle have also been recorded, and occasional sightings of Napoleon Wrasse add to the pelagic variety.
The majority of sites in Addu Atoll are rated for intermediate divers, reflecting the channelled currents and deeper profiles that characterise the outer reefs and kandus. Gan Inside is the notable exception, offering a sheltered, shallow reef with mild currents that suits those earlier in their diving experience. The British Loyalty wreck and Kottey Corner are rated advanced and are best approached by confident divers with experience in current and depth.
Gan holds the larger share of dive sites and includes a variety of reef, drift, wall, and wreck diving, anchored by the British Loyalty shipwreck. Meedhoo has a smaller cluster of sites concentrated along its outer reef walls, with sites like Meeddhoo Outside offering steep vertical profiles and moderate currents. Both sub-areas are served by boat access from local operators.
