Le Cattedrali, Punta della Madonna, Punta Rossa, and Secca dei Mattoni are all rated beginner level, offering shallower depths and sheltered cave or reef topography. More experienced divers will find challenge at intermediate sites such as Scoglio della Botte, which descends to serious depth.
All of Ponza's dive sites are reached by boat; there are no shore-entry dive sites in the area. A large number of local dive operators, including Sub-Academy, Gorgonia Diving ASD, and Ponza diving center among others, run scheduled boat trips to the various sites. Booking with one of the island's operators is the standard and most practical approach.
Ponza offers notable variety within a compact area. Scoglio della Botte is a deep reef and cave system for experienced divers, while Punta del Papa combines a wreck, wall, pinnacle, and reef in a single dive. Le Cattedrali is known for its arched cave passages and the light effects they create. Secca dei Mattoni adds an archaeological dimension, featuring the remains of an ancient Roman shipwreck between Ponza and Palmarola.
