Rurutu sits in the Austral Islands, the southernmost archipelago of French Polynesia, and its diving takes place in the South Pacific Ocean. Water temperatures are cooler here than further north, dropping into the low-to-mid twenties during the austral winter months and rising into the upper twenties in late summer. The island is particularly noted for the seasonal presence of humpback whales, which visit from July through October to calve and nurse. Underwater topography includes coral walls and limestone caverns, and the one operator currently in our database is based in Moerai. All diving is done by boat.
