Sha'ab Anbar and the surrounding pinnacles form a group of remote Red Sea sites within the broader Suakin Archipelago, accessible only by boat from Port Sudan or Suakin. The eight sites in our database include reefs, walls, drop-offs, and drift dives, with depths reaching sixty metres at Keary Reef. Intermediate and advanced divers are catered for, though several sites carry strong or unpredictably shifting currents that demand solid buoyancy control. Gorgonians in cherry and purple tones are a feature of the area, alongside silvertip, whitetip, and blacktip reef sharks, whale sharks, and bumphead parrotfish. The primary Sudanese diving season of February to May is the recommended window for visiting.

Temperatures sit in the mid-twenties during winter and rise to the low thirties by late summer, making a light wetsuit adequate for most of the year. Current strength is the more significant variable: several sites, including Hindi Gidir and Keary Reef, see currents that intensify with little warning, so drift-diving experience is an asset.
