Visibility varies up to 12 metres, and water temperatures fluctuate between 14C and 20C throughout the year. Entry is via the shore. Divers should be aware of boat traffic in the area. Species recorded around this area include long-nosed fur seals, crabs, deepwater burrfish, sea stars, bluebottles, and snails.

Pariokariwa Reef in the Bay of Plenty is a complex underwater landscape featuring a network of small caves, overhangs, and pinnacles.
