Waterton Lakes sits within a national park on the Alberta prairie-mountain border, and diving here means freshwater lakes rather than ocean. Water stays cold even in late summer, and a pronounced thermocline at depth drops temperatures sharply. Weather in the park is highly variable and can change fast, so conditions on the surface and below can shift within a single dive. The two sites in our database, Emerald Bay and Cameron Bay, offer a wreck alongside wall and drop-off topography, with fish life including lake trout, pike, burbot, and sturgeon. A self-certification permit is mandatory for scuba equipment, and non-motorised watercraft brought from outside the park are prohibited.
