Achensee is a high-altitude glacier-formed lake in the Austrian Tyrol, sitting between the Karwendel and Rofan mountain ranges. Six dive sites span a wide range of skill levels, from shallow shore entries near Schwarzenau suited to beginners through to the advanced wreck at Hechenberg, where a car lies at forty metres past a Madonna statue. Underwater topography includes walls, drop-offs, artificial reefs, and wrecks, with visibility typically between three and fifteen metres depending on site and season. Diving is strictly regulated and permitted only between April and November, with a single-dive permit required.
