Lake Bohinj is Slovenia's largest permanent natural lake, a glacial body of fresh water sitting in a Julian Alps valley entirely within Triglav National Park. The lake is cold year-round: bottom temperatures hold between four and seven degrees Celsius even in summer, while surface water can reach the mid-twenties during the warmest months. Divers come here for a range of freshwater terrain, wall dives, reef structures, a canyon stretch, and submerged wrecks, across sites suited to both beginners and intermediate divers. Entry is shore-based at most sites, permits are required, and species commonly seen include brown trout, pike, burbot, perch, and chub.
