The Chelyabinsk Lakes region in the southern Ural Mountains offers freshwater diving across three sites, most notably Orda Cave, one of the longest known underwater gypsum cave systems in the world. Orda's white gypsum passages sit at depths between six and twenty metres with visibility typically reaching forty-five to fifty metres, a rare combination for inland Russia. Water temperature in the cave holds around four degrees Celsius year-round, making a drysuit essential. Kisegach Lake and Red Stone provide shallower reef alternatives for those building experience, though visibility at these lake sites is more limited. Many lakes in this region freeze from late autumn through spring.
