Diving in Yekaterinburg

Yekaterinburg's diving takes place in freshwater quarries and lakes in the Ural Mountains, with the standout site being Lazurny Quarry. That quarry descends to sixty-nine metres and offers visibility between fifteen and thirty metres, well above what most inland sites in Russia provide. Other sites feature sunken artificial structures including a bus, a railway carriage, and a Moskvich automobile, which serve as artificial reefs for freshwater species including perch, pike, trout, and burbot. A pronounced thermocline sits at six to eight metres at Lazurny, where temperatures drop to four degrees Celsius, so thermal planning matters even when surface water is warmer in summer.
