While the area is generally calm, it is situated within a shipping channel, necessitating caution regarding boat traffic and the use of a delayed surface marker buoy. Tidal currents can occur, though they are typically mild. Water temperatures fluctuate between 13 and 19 degrees Celsius, requiring a wetsuit year-round. Divers should be aware of potential hazards including jellyfish and local marine life interactions.

The Eliza Ramsden is an artificial reef wreck located 2000 metres offshore in the South Shipping Channel near Sorrento.
