Diving in Lake Hévíz

Lake Hévíz in western Hungary is a geothermally heated lake fed by a spring reaching down to thirty-eight metres. The water is mineral-rich and maintains temperatures from warm in winter to hot in summer, making it unlike any other freshwater diving environment in the country. Visibility is limited, ranging from one to five metres, and moderate currents are present. The site is classed as intermediate, with the cave spring system posing an overhead environment. Because of the lake's significance as a medicinal spa, access for recreational diving is restricted and should be arranged through authorised local operators.
