Bathurst Channel is a challenging, remote site near Bruny Island, Tasmania, defined by its unique tannin-stained water. This dark, nutrient-rich environment creates conditions similar to an overhead environment, with visibility ranging from 0 to 12 metres. The topography consists of walls and reefs that support cold-water filter feeders, including sea whips, lace bryozoans, and sea pens. Due to strong tidal currents and cold water temperatures between 12 and 16 degrees Celsius, this site is strictly for advanced divers. A boat is required for access, and a 7 or 9mm drysuit is recommended to manage the cold and the presence of a halocline.
