Balmorhea sits in West Texas, where San Solomon Springs feeds a large spring-fed pool within Balmorhea State Park. The water temperature holds steady at around twenty-two to twenty-four degrees Celsius regardless of season, and visibility can reach up to a hundred metres. The two sites in our database are shore-entry and suitable for beginners. Depths range from very shallow to twenty-five metres. The pool is home to several freshwater species including red swamp crayfish, channel catfish, and redbreast sunfish, as well as some endangered desert wetland species. The historic pool structure was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps.
