Conditions are characterised by cold water, with temperatures reaching the mid-60s Fahrenheit in summer but often dropping into the 40s beneath a thermocline. Currents are generally mild. The habitat supports a variety of temperate marine life, including invertebrates and reef fish. Divers should be aware of hazards including cold water, sea urchins, and sharks. Steller sea lions are frequently observed in the area during the autumn and winter months.

Lena Beach Recreation Area offers accessible shore entry for snorkelers looking to explore shallow kelp forests. The site is suitable for beginners, with depths ranging from 1 to 5 metres and an average depth of 3 metres. Conditions are characterised by mild currents and visibility typically between 5 and 12 metres. Water temperatures are cold, generally ranging from 7 to 13 degrees Celsius, though they may reach 18 degrees Celsius during mid-summer. Hazards include cold water and surf. Facilities available at the site include toilets and showers. A typical snorkel session lasts approximately 60 minutes.

Ann Coleman Wall is a shore-accessible site featuring a sheer underwater wall punctuated by deep crevasses. The topography consists of a reef structure that drops to a maximum depth of 24 metres. Due to the presence of surf and the depth of the wall, this site is suited for advanced divers. Snorkellers may also visit the site, which holds a rating of 3 out of 5 for surface activity. Access is provided from the end of Ann Coleman Drive. Divers should be aware of the deep water and surf conditions present at this location.
