Open Bay Islands, comprising Taumaki and Popotai, are located 5 kilometres offshore from Haast in Fiordland. This site is accessible only by boat and is rated for advanced snorkellers due to its exposed offshore location. The islands are home to a large fur seal colony, which is the primary feature of the area. Snorkellers can expect better water visibility here compared to the nearby mainland coast. Water temperatures fluctuate between 13C and 18C throughout the year. Divers and snorkellers should be aware of the presence of sharks in these waters.

Tauparikākā Marine Reserve in Fiordland is a small educational site where swamp forest meets the sea. This reef environment is primarily suited for advanced snorkellers, as surf conditions can make the water challenging. The site features shallow margins with an average depth of 5 metres, reaching a maximum of 5 metres. Access is via the shore, with the main area located approximately 200 metres from the coastline. Facilities at the site include parking, toilets, showers, changing rooms, a rinse station, and a cafe. A dive shop, boat charter services, and guided tours are also available nearby.
