The Mackenzie River East Channel at the Inuvik town dock is an artificial site primarily used for brief summer dips. Snorkelling conditions are challenging due to high silt content, which frequently limits visibility to less than 30 centimetres. The site features depths ranging from 1 to 5 metres, with an average of 3 metres. Access is via a shore entry. Due to extremely cold water temperatures, strong currents, and low visibility, this site is suitable only for advanced snorkellers and requires caution regarding entanglement hazards. Typical sessions are short, lasting approximately 15 minutes.

Shell Lake Beach, located near the Shell Lake Water Aerodrome, offers a sandy beach entry point for snorkelling near Inuvik. The site features relatively shallow water that is slightly clearer than the main river channels, although visibility remains poor. Water temperatures are consistently cold, typically ranging between 1.7 and 2.8°C, even during the summer months. Due to these conditions, the site is rated 1/5 for snorkelling and is suitable for beginners who are prepared for cold water. Divers and snorkellers should be aware of the cold water hazard present at this location.
